Star Quest is Back.....with a bang
I'm not sure how many of you are familiar with Star Quest, but it's a musical talent hunt show sponsored by Nigerian Breweries. The contestants usually, wannbes are selected from around the country. As there is room for models to become famous, so also is there for those who think they’ve got that musical talent and who wannabe stars. The auditions of finding the next music stars has commenced in Lagos at the Adebola House, Opebi, Ikeja and in Benin at the Excalibur Hotel.
At RISE, we are youths with Reputation, Impact, Style and Expression. This should be the ultimate goal of every youth even as we all aspire to be great and move our country Nigeria, forward. To the organizers of this program, thumbs up for you. And to the participants; N7.5m recording contract, N3.6m cash prize, a mini van and one year guaranteed accommodation is not a small something oh! Tell the world we’ve got rare talents of the finest species in Nigeria.
CONDOMS NO HELP AGAINST AIDS IN AFRICA
Addressing the root cause of the problem will not only resolve the main issue of Aids, but will cascade to improving other issues as well. Let’s be real folks, of course condoms will reduce the spreading of Aids in Africa. But if you think pushing condoms into Africa will help them ethically - not even religiously, you're in for a rude awakening.
This doesn’t mean that condoms won't prevent aids. They obviously will, what it means saying is that condoms won't help Africa. Africa needs more than a band-aid condom solution. We need a change in values to improve. Condoms will help reduce aids, there's no doubt, but it will also help deteriorate the values - including respect, monogamy, and marriage.
This subject matter has generated a lot of controversies over the years, especially with individuals that preach the news but do not adhere to it. We all know the truth and choose to do whatever we please with it, but as youths, the best message preached and valued is to “ZIP UP”. So, spread the news not the virus.
REBRANDING NIGERIA
Beep! Beep!! Beep!!! I checked my phone while wondering whose message was coming in at that time of the night. The sender’s name read FGN, which made me wonder again if I had committed some sort of national crime. Curiosity aroused, I quickly checked the body of the message which read ‘Nigeria: Good people, Great nation’. I was like wow! a personalized text message from Nigeria to me, what more could be comforting than the thought that the Federal Government has begun to see how important each Nigerian is.
Getting to the work the next day, I eagerly told my colleagues my overnight experience. As I was going on and on about my being important, my colleagues brought out their phones to show me the same text message earlier sent to them too.
Obviously, we are all important. Good point, which makes me know that a couple of other people also got this message. After tweaking the issue back and forth, it was obvious this is one of the many moves the government is bidding in the course of rebranding Nigeria.
Now the big question(s), how is this message suppose to add value to me and many others who received it? How is it going to change the corruption level that keeps moving higher? How does it remove substance from the pockets of the super rich and bring food to the table of the poor man? How does it erase the poverty mentality so richly imbedded in the minds of many? How does it change our value system as a nation, where people don’t start protecting their handbags and wallets once they know you are a Nigerian?
One guess, a lot of people who deleted the text immediately from their phones must have been pondering over the same question(s). For now, the questions remain unanswered but let’s see if they will be in the nearest future. Meanwhile, kudos to the Federal Government of Nigeria for breaking the silence on the most anticipated Nigerian project “Rebranding Nigeria”
